At this time of year when we are reminded to be thankful for what we have, we often become more aware of what others don’t have. Olmsted Falls Kiwanis has decided to undertake a fund-raising project to aid in disaster relief for the people of Puerto Rico who have been devastated from the effects of Hurricane Maria. More than two months after the storm hit, most of the island is still without power. Potable drinking water is in short supply. Many people have no homes, or homes with no roofs. Beginning with personal efforts of one member who has friends living there, the club has embarked on an effort to raise money to purchase tarps for temporary roofs, water filters, solar lights, and any other needed items. If you would like to contribute, you send a check in any amount made out to “Olmsted Falls Kiwanis Club” to PO Box 38363, Olmsted Falls, OH. 44138

You can be sure that 100% of your donation will go directly to the people that need the help. We will purchase the needed items and ship them to the island; another one of our club members has connections to do the shipping. Please note that your donation is not tax-deductible because the club is not a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. As an alternative, you can donate directly to a non-profit organization in Puerto Rico that is 501(c)3 by going to their website, which is www.ISERCaribe.org. This organization is focusing all of their efforts on hurricane relief. It is through this organization that our club became aware of the direness of the situation. Two of the lead staff members of this group are newlyweds, one of whom is a family member from the friends that our club member knows. The club thanks you for any help you can provide.
